Colombia – Colombia gaming makes huge comeback after COVID slump

The President of the Colombian Gaming Control Board (Coljuegos), César Augusto Valencia Galiano, has announced that between January and September 2021 the gambling industry reported a record in fees in gaming licensing and exploitation rights. Combined licensing fees added up to COP$499,452m, 97 per cent more compared to the same period of the previous year, when license fees stood at COP$253,541m.

The figure also reflected an increase of 3.6 per cent compared to the amount registered in 2019 when license fees amounted to COP$495,836m. 

“For us it is a very important result that allows us to recognize and praise the great work and effort that our industry is doing in the framework of the economic reactivation of the country, just for the month of September 2021 collection reached 49,320m pesos which means a growth percentage of 108 per cent compared to 2020 when the collection barely reached 23,540m pesos. Sales for the month of September 2021 recorded an increase of 116 percent reaching 4.1 billion pesos compared to the 1.9bn obtained in 2020 for the same period,” Valencia Galiano said.

In Colombia Juegos Localizados include bingos, slot parlours, casinos and sports betting.  

 “I acknowledge the enormous effort made by localized games that registered exploitation rights for 173,214m pesos to date and that represent an increase of 120 percent compared to the same period in 2020 when the collection did not exceed 78,734m pesos,” said Valencia Galian. Online gambling also reported a significant growth in gaming licensing and exploitation rights of 133 percent reaching COP$128.130m between January and September 2021.

For its part, the Super Astro lottery game recorded a collection for gaming licensing and rights to date of COP$81,094 million an increase of 37 percent compared to the same period in 2020. Likewise, lottery games Baloto and Revancha contributed COP$63,247 million pesos – an increase of 42 percent compared to the previous year. 

According to Coljuegos, gaming registered sales of COP$31.42bn pesos, between January and September 2021, reflecting an increase of 131 per cent compared to the same period in 2020 when sales barely amounted to COP$13, bn. Compared to 2019 2021 growth increased by 24 per cent. “Localised games registered gross sales of 19.8bn pesos to date, with an increase of 160 per cent compared to 2020 and Internet games reached 11bn pesos, with a growth of 97 percent,” explained the President of Coljuegos.

Meanwhile Super Astro registered sales of COP$424,328, an increase of 38 per cent compared to the same period in 2020 while Baloto and Revancha recorded sales of COP$188,907m an increase of 38 per cent.
