The Netherlands – KSA confirms 79 applications for online gambling licenses

By - 21 ta' Ġunju 2019

Dutch Gaming Authority Kansspelautoriteit (Ksa) has confirmed that 79 parties have indicated they are interested in an online gambling license to operate in the Netherlands.

The registration process only began on June 5 and closed today June 21 2019.

The Ksa is currently setting up the licensing process for the Remote Gambling Act, which the Senate passed into law this February. The law makes online gambling legal under strict conditions. The Ministry of Justice and Security is currently developing the legislation. When this is done, the Ksa will draw up definitive permit conditions. If the law formally enters into force, the Ksa can then process license applications. The law is expected to come into force on July 1, 2020 with the market for online gambling opening on January 1, 2021.

In order to ensure that the licensing process runs smoothly, it is important for the Ksa to know how many license applications it can expect in the future.

René Jansen, chairman of the board of directors of the Ksa, said: “Everyone will soon benefit from a smooth process. If we know how many applications we can expect, we can organise the process accordingly. That is in our interest, but also in that of the applicants.”
